A Better Way To Oxygenate Water

 

Water Utilities are continually looking to reduce energy consumption and hence the costs in their wastewater treatment processes. The aeration systems in conventional ASP plants typically accounts for as much as 60 percent of the total energy consumed at a wastewater treatment plant. As a consequence, the payback on greater energy efficiency is significant.


New Proven Innovative Technology

Technological advancements in ASP to date have been incremental with modern air blowers and fine bubble diffusers now being employed within deep aeration tanks, to achieve good oxygen transfer. However, effective and efficient operational control is difficult to obtain as the sewage treatment process is a hostile environment, it has high suspended solids, varying daily and seasonal flows and as a result changes in oxygen demand. Furthermore, over time the blower efficiencies drop off and the diffusers foul, and as a consequence total efficiency drops and unless there is a good understanding of oxygen requirements the process is not efficient.

Oxygen transfer rates (OTR) are typically measured in clean water at standard conditions (SOTR), and then taking the power (P) usage into consideration are expressed as ‘Aeration Efficiencies’ (AE =OTR/P).
